Do you need a permit for a Siwa desert safari?

Yes, a military and police permit is strictly required to enter the Great Sand Sea.

You cannot obtain this permit on your own as an independent traveler. A certified local safari operator must submit your details to the authorities to secure access. Without this paperwork, checkpoints will turn you back.

How do you book the safari?

You book through local tour operators or online platforms before your arrival.

Guides manage the military clearance process. You can book a dedicated half-day 4x4 trip, or select a multi-day package from Cairo that includes the safari. Operators typically handle all entrance fees and paperwork.

What is the Bir Wahed hot spring?

Bir Wahed is a natural sulfuric hot spring situated in the middle of the desert dunes.

This natural spring provides very hot water for a relaxing soak. Directly nearby, there is a cold freshwater lake where you can cool off immediately after.
